What I think this quote is trying to say is that if you try your best you hard work will always payoff. If you are failing something and you try your best to be good at the thing you need to be good at you hard work will help you succeed. But If you are a person that doesn't like to work hard to deserve it then you will never succeed in your goal. Succeeding will get you thing that you didn’t even know you can get like if you needed a class for High school to pass in order to get your high school diploma and you tried and tried every day in that class to pass in the end you will pass it because you were always doing everything you could to pass that class.
